Solving the problem of "China's air core" requires innovative thinking

A small chip, China's annual import volume reached 130 billion US dollars, the "China's air core" problem has recently caused widespread concern in society. At the same time, the information security problem caused by the "Prism Gate" incident has made the security of the chip highly valued by the state. To solve the "China core" problem, we need innovative thinking. In terms of transformation and innovation, how do you view the phenomenon of “cage change for birds” and “two skins” in development? What is the core of enterprise innovation? How will silicon technology develop in technological innovation? What developments does hardware revitalization bring to integrated circuits? Opportunities, how to seize these opportunities? 2013 Taihu on the road - in the IC industry innovation and development summit forum, industry experts and scholars around these hot spots were interpreted.

Low-cost manufacturing has its existence value

As long as it can bring employment opportunities, as long as it can improve the quality of workers, as long as it is conducive to social stability, low-cost manufacturing has its existence value.

Now everyone is discussing the Chinese dream. The Chinese dream can be divided into three stages: the well-off stage, the developed stage and the leading stage. The well-off stage is 2021. At the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party, the per capita GDP reached 3,000 US dollars. The developed stage is 2049. At the 100th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic, the per capita GDP reached 20,000 US dollars. The leading stage is in 2100, when it meets the new century. The per capita GDP reached 50,000 US dollars.

The international community is more concerned about the rapid development of the Chinese economy. Judging from the development of countries around the world, Japan's rapid development has continued for 16 years, the Asian Tigers are 13 years, and China's rapid development has continued for 30 years. China's GDP has surpassed Italy, France, Britain, and Japan to become the world's second largest economy, which has shaken the world.

China has 220 industrial products with the second largest output in the world, but its resources and energy consumption are huge, environmental pollution is serious, and extensive production continues. From the perspective of GDP created by each worker, one person in Russia is equivalent to four in China, one in Japan is equivalent to 13 in China, and one in the United States is equivalent to 16 in China.

To truly realize the Chinese dream, we need knowledge to create wealth. Mainly in several major areas:

1. Chip manufacturing. The value created by the global chip manufacturing industry is about $300 billion/year, and it can penetrate into the field of several trillions of dollars every year.

2. E-commerce. E-commerce has changed the pattern of traditional business services.

3. Information revolution. It brings benefits to society through the Internet, computers, mobile phones and home appliances, and a wearable technology revolution is emerging.

In the process of innovation and development, China needs to consider several issues:

First, how to treat low-cost manufacturing (low-cost manufacturing is not low-end manufacturing), the way of "cage for birds" is worth discussing. For example, the United States has regretted the hollowing-down model that has been adopted in the transition, and has begun to adopt a manufacturing return in recent years. As long as it can bring employment opportunities, as long as it can improve the quality of workers, as long as it is conducive to social stability, low-cost manufacturing has its existence value.

The second is to rationally deal with environmental pollution problems, and environmental countermeasures must have a scientific basis.

The third is how to deal with the "two skins", which refers to the intersection of enterprise innovation, technological innovation and economic development. The focus of the problem is on how to invigorate independent innovation and strengthen the R&D institutions and team building within the enterprise.

Enterprises are the mainstay of economic development, and there is a road map for enterprise innovation and development - technology innovation is the foundation, financial innovation, business model innovation is a higher stage of innovation, and the highest point is cultural innovation. Cultural innovation is the core of enterprise competition and marks the height of enterprise innovation.

Enterprise development needs to connect with the mainstream market

On the one hand, the company needs to upgrade its technology and connect with mainstream products; on the other hand, it needs to improve its management level.

As of October 2013, Changdian Technology's sales increased by 19.5%. In November and December, the market did not look very good, and some declined. The main reason lies in the changes in domestic mobile phone IC design enterprises. For example, Rideco is a large customer of Changdian, and its integration will also have a certain impact on the back-end packaging and testing enterprises.

From the perspective of domestic packaging, the current market is in a state of fault, the new market can't keep up, and the traditional market is shrinking. For example, the current smart phone development is the fastest, but the main packaging technology of smart phones is still unable to keep up with some domestic packaging companies, while the traditional business is shrinking further, and the market is sluggish, such as the field of ordinary household appliances.

In order to maintain development, packaging and testing enterprises need to enter the mainstream market. For example, the rapid growth of Huatian Technology stems from its business related to smartphones. The growth of long-term power development is mainly due to the pace of keeping up with the development of smart phones.

In this regard, the packaging and testing enterprises need technical upgrades on the one hand, and dock with mainstream products. Technology does not upgrade, can only be a very low-end product, can only lead to price wars, this is not the way out. On the other hand, the management level has to be improved and it is also important.

Domestic IC companies have insufficient driving force for spontaneous innovation

In the future development of packaging and testing technology, advanced packaging manufacturing, especially three-dimensional integration, is increasingly accepted by the international community. The breakthrough point lies in the three-dimensional system packaging.

To do high-end technology, the chip design, manufacturing and sealing and testing can not be completely separated. The design system architecture of the entire high-end product will be broken, starting with the system package design, and then the chip design.

At present, the demand for the domestic integrated circuit industry is very strong, but the inherent innovation driving force of the enterprise is a kind of market-driven innovation, not a spontaneous innovation.

Industrial development requires collaborative innovation. There are three main levels: from the perspective of the industrial chain, it is the innovation of technology, equipment and materials; from the upstream and downstream perspective, it is the innovation of chip design, manufacturing and packaging testing; It is the innovation of government, industry, research institutes and associations.

In the future development of packaging and testing technology, advanced packaging manufacturing, especially three-dimensional integration, is increasingly accepted by the international community. Now all IC manufacturers are concerned about both front and back. For enterprises, it is hundreds of millions of dollars of investment. It is very difficult for a company to invest independently. It needs industry chain coordination, and several companies work together to get things done. This was also the original intention of establishing Huajin Company at that time. Huajin is a pilot of institutional innovation in the enterprise system.

We also have been exploring how competitive companies can work together, especially in the future. In the future, if there is a foothold in the integrated circuit industry, collaborative innovation in the industrial chain and alliance with competitive enterprises are necessary. For example, Intel, Samsung, AEMD, Grofund, TSMC, several companies are competitive, but also have a cooperative relationship and symbiotic relationship.
