Color common sense - what is the number of colors?

Color Depth The field of computer graphics represents the number of bits used to store a 1-pixel color in a bitmap or video frame buffer, also known as bit/pixel (bpp). The higher the color depth, the more colors are available.

The color depth is illustrated by the "n-bit colour". If the color depth is n bits, there are 2n color choices, and the number of bits used to store each pixel is n. Common ones are:

Monochrome: black and white.

2 digits: 4 colors for CGA.

4 digits: 16 colors for CGA, EGA and VGA.

8-bit grayscale: Both are black, gray, and white, with 256 levels.

15 or 16-bit color (high color): The three primary colors used in the computer are red, green, and blue. In 15-bit color, each primary color has 25=32 levels, a total of 32,768 colors; and in 16-bit color, green has 26=64, a total of 65,536 colors.

24-bit color (true color): Each primary color has 256 levels, and their combination has 256*256*256 colors.

32-bit color: In addition to the 24-bit color, the extra 8 bits are the graphics data (alpha channel) that store the overlay layer.

In addition, there is a High Dynamic Range Image, which uses more than 256 levels to store images. Usually, each pixel is assigned 32+32+32 bits to store color information, that is, Say that a 32-bit floating point number is used for each primary color.
