Heidelberg Speedmaster 74 DI Direct Imaging Offset Press Technical Features

The Speedmaster 74 Offset Press is a well-known Heidelberger traditional offset press. It has always been known for its stable and high-quality world-wide printing industry. As the name suggests, the SpeedMaster 74DI is based on the SM 74 to improve its plate making method, making it an on-machine direct imaging printer. It can be said that the SM 74 DI is a combination of the SM 74 and direct imaging technology. Heidelberg began researching direct imaging technology in the 1990s. Its first generation product was GTO-DI, and QM DI 46-4 exhibited in Drupa in 1995 caused a sensation in the industry. In 1996, the first QM DI 46-4 was successfully installed in the country. After five years of testing, this device still benefits users with its stable, fast, and high-quality features. The SM 74 DI was exhibited for the first time at the printing exhibition in Birmingham, UK, in 1999. The production line was formally launched in June 2000. To date, QM DI 46 4 in a global installed base of more than 1200, SM 74 DI installed capacity in the world had reached 600 units.

I. Workflow of Speedmaster 74 DI

Taking a look at the development of Heidelberg direct imaging printing technology, from the following the workflow of the Speedmaster 74 DI, it can be seen that the SM74 DI system is not a simple device, but a complete system for direct printing. Eliminating the traditional proofing, filming, sunscreen PS version, on the machine and other traditional processes.

Second, RIP (raster image processing)

The Speedmaster 74 DI is connected to Prineroy using the latest Delta 6.1 RIP. The RIP hardware platform is an IBM Netfinity 550M20 with a frequency of 2 x Xeon 550MHz, 512M RAM, 100MHz Ecc SD Ram, and Windows NT 4.0 Server operating environment.

Third, proofing and spelling

The Signastation Workstation in Heidelberg accepts Delta List, PS, and PDF files for imposition, uses a color management system for color printing and printing on color printers, and uses the CIP3 standard to pre-set post-processing modes.

Fourth, SM74 DI features and functions

1. The highest configuration in the same web press

The SM74 DI is based on the SM74. This machine adopts CP2000 control center, Heidelberg automatic plate-up device, automatic blanket cylinder, impression cylinder cleaning device, connection with prepress interface, temperature control of ink unit, and highly-friendly automatic operating system. The SM74 DI can be used for both traditional printing and direct imaging printing. The configuration is flexible, and it can be selected from four-color, five-color, six-color units as well as configuration with flip function, glazing unit and other devices.

2. Direct imaging technology

SM74 DI imaging time required for each unit while only 3.5 minutes. Using automatic on-machine calibration, the preparation time from the completion of RIP processing to the start of printing the product is 10 minutes (including the upper plate, ink adjustment, plate making, etc.).

3. Consumables

With thermal imaging technology, the thermal plate of the SM74 DI can be printed directly without exposure after exposure. Direct imaging printing customers can choose from Heidelberg's Saphira Thermoplate, Presstek's Pearl Gold or other similar media. For the traditional printing mode can be used ordinary domestic and imported PS version. The ink and paper used are exactly the same as traditional offset printing.

4. CP2000 latest console

CP2000 console adopts integrated direct imaging control, remote control register, ink zone and ink roller speed remote control, the system can pre-set the important functions of the printing machine, with an internal memory card capable of storing 250 printing jobs, "Fast color scheme "Processing software packages.

The automatic ink system Ink line is an option, with automatic ink cartridges that store 2 kilograms of ink, which not only saves time, but also allows the printer to have a better and more economic ink distribution.

V. Conclusion

In summary, the SM74 DI is highly productive and can be precisely registered in 3.5 minutes. Six groups of plates can be imaged at the same time, and ink pre-setting (CPC32) can be performed automatically. The preparation time from the start of preparation to the printing of the first qualified print is about 10 minutes.

The SM74 DI printer features dual printing capabilities, standard temperature control, and unique thermal square dot technology that gives it the highest offset quality.

The machine is equipped with CPC ink control function, easy to use, flexible, up to 17 configurations. Safe and smooth operation of the six imaging components can use a variety of inks and paper, open workflow so that users can get the most profit, suitable for printing a print volume of 200-10000 copies. Because of its short printing time, it can create the maximum benefit for the user within the same work cycle.
