Kenaf can be used as agricultural film

The use of Kenaf as an agricultural mulch is the latest invention of college students such as Professor Zhou Jinghui and Huang Hanbing from Dalian Institute of Light Industry.

Kenaf is the fastest-growing plant fiber material in nature and can grow on the poorest lands. The biggest problem with kenaf as a mulch film is how to make the paper transparent, heat-insulating, moisturizing and durable like a plastic film. Through a large number of tests, Prof. Jingjing Zhou and others succeeded in using kenaf as a raw material and chlorinated paraffin as a transparent impregnant. The transparency, wet-and-dry strength, and water-holding capacity of kenaf film were comparable to those of plastic films, and did not affect it. Its biodegradability avoids white contamination caused by the use of plastic mulches.
