The best of Everest (1)

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the successful summit of human beings, the Chinese mountaineering team held a commemorative climbing event. In conjunction with this event, we will continue to introduce some of the little-known weather scenes on the top of Mount Everest.

Hypobaric hypoxia and "open" water are not open
At the peak of 8845.13 meters above sea level, the average pressure is about 344 hPa, which is equivalent to 34% of the sea level. There are thousands of meteorological and strange scenery on the top of Mount Everest, which are caused by high altitude, low air pressure, and thin air.

First, the oxygen content in the air decreases proportionally with the decrease in air pressure. The oxygen content in the three breaths of the Mt. Everest peaked at the breath of oxygen on the sea level. Therefore, there is a severe lack of oxygen on the Mt. Everest, and the mountain reacts seriously. Only trained mountaineers can survive without oxygen.

The second is the low boiling point of water. Because the atmospheric pressure on the water is reduced, the water boils easily. The boiling point of water on the Mt. Everest is about 81°C. The author has repeatedly visited the Wutaishan weather station at 2,896 meters above sea level, where the boiling point is 91°C. There was no pressure cooker in the station, so steamed steamed buns were under-fired and the cooked noodles were hard and raw. According to the chef who was there to cook, if the noodles are to be boiled, they become murky.
