The difference between CCD and CMOS in microscopic optical imaging

CCD imaging principle

The imaging principle of CCD is: Charge Coupled Device (CCD) uses photosensitive diode to sense light, and the light shines on the image sensor composed of photodiodes. The photodiode releases electrons after receiving the impact of photons, and the number of generated electrons. It is proportional to the intensity of the light sensed by the photodiode. When the exposure is over, each photodiode contains a different amount of electrons, and the digital image is represented and stored by the number of electrons.

CCD sensor

The CCD sensor, also known as a charge coupler, is a special semiconductor material consisting of a large number of independent photodiodes, usually arranged in a matrix. At present, there are many types of CCDs, and the area array type CCD is mainly used in digital cameras. It is an array of many individual photodiodes, which are square in shape and then arrayed like a brick to form a CCD sensor that outputs a resolution image. Functionally, the CCD sensor is somewhat equivalent to the film of a conventional camera. From the perspective of consumer choice, the larger the CCD sensor, of course, the better.

I believe that many consumers have seen the term COMS in domestic brands. In fact, it is also a kind of photosensitive element, but it is obviously lower in cost than CCD, and is also smaller than CCD in power consumption, but in noise control and imaging. The quality is not as good as CCD (here only refers to CMOS sensor with small size), so it is only used in low-end digital cameras and camera design.

In addition, regarding SuperCCD, it is a CCD technology originally created by Fuji. The biggest difference from the ordinary CCD is that it changes the principle that the four primary color points of the matrix CCD are combined into one pixel point, octagonal geometry and discontinuous arrangement. The honeycomb photosensitive unit can make better use of the CCD surface space, and obtain more information when the pixels are equal. At present, almost all the products in the rich market have adopted this photosensitive element, and the reflection is obviously better than before, especially the ISO sensitivity design up to 1600, which won the praise of consumers.

CCD: Charge Coupled Device (CCD), which is made of a high-sensitivity semiconductor material that converts light into electric charge, converts it into a digital signal through an analog-to-digital converter chip, and compresses the digital signal. It is later saved by the camera's internal flash memory or internal hard disk card, so data can be easily transferred to the computer, and the image can be modified as needed and imagined by means of computer processing. The CCD consists of many photosensitive units, usually in megapixels. When the CCD surface is exposed to light, each photosensitive unit reflects the charge on the component, and the signals generated by all the photosensitive units are added together to form a complete picture.
