AET Films Develops New Co-Extruded Film

At a recent film seminar, representatives of several large film manufacturers in the world pointed out that co-extruded film is the latest technological trend in the packaging film industry. Peeky Kasturia, Flex Business America’s US business manager, said that in addition to its high barrier properties as a plasma coating material, coextruded films also have better transparency, heat sealability, and flexibility in typographic printing. It is a common ink and paint. He also believes that due to environmental concerns, the thickness of coextruded films has been reduced from 48 gauge to 40 gauge, and its own strength will instead be greatly improved.

AET Films has developed this coextruded film. According to Leighton Derr, the company’s technical director, “As flexible packaging printing shifts to high-definition printing, virtual lighting and flexo technology have a new market share, and AET has developed a new type of extruded polypropylene (OPP) co-extruded film. Satisfy all kinds of application requirements.” Although three types of three-layer co-extruded OPP packaging films that can be reverse printed have the same printing layer, they are designed for specific applications. T5323-3 is a coextruded sliding OPP film for packaging snacks, baked goods and pasta. PST-2 is a co-extruded, heat-sealable OPP film for heat-sealable packaging of snacks, confectionery, baked goods, and pasta products. RLS is a co-extruded cold-sealing OPP film that is commonly used to package candy and stick-type nutritious foods.

John Felinski, president of Filmquest Group, called advanced coextruded films and blended polymers together "a new generation of polyester film." He added that "nano-composites and nano-dispersion technology have good prospects for development. Commercial applications of corn and PLA films have achieved some success, matching specific inks, coatings and curing systems, chemically treated polyesters. The film is in the development stage."
