China's first high-temperature superconducting device space test is successful

The high-temperature superconducting filter developed by the Beijing National Laboratory for Condensed Matter Physics (Institute of Physics), Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the Institute of Physics) has been successfully carried out in China ’s first civilian new technology test satellite, Practice No. 9 A. This is the first time that China has completed a superconducting device space test, which shows that the application of superconducting technology in China has ranked among the forefront of the world, and is of great significance to the application of superconducting devices in China, especially space applications.

The superconducting filter verification test device jointly developed by the Institute of Physics and the 510 Institute of Aerospace Science and Technology Group (hereinafter referred to as 510 Institute) is one of the main payloads to practice the No. 9 satellite. At 11:25 on October 14, 2012, the No. 9 A / B satellite was launched with the "Long March 2C" carrier rocket and entered a predetermined orbit. As of now, the data shows that the superconducting filter meets the requirements of the predetermined test index, and successfully achieved the first stage of the goal.

High-temperature superconducting materials have extremely low microwave loss. The filter developed with this feature has the characteristics of small insertion loss, high band edge steepness, and deep out-of-band suppression. It can improve the sensitivity and anti-interference ability of satellite microwave receiving systems. With the support of relevant national departments and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Superconducting Technology Application Center of the Institute of Physics has been devoted to space application research of high-temperature superconducting microwave devices since 2001. In the ground test verification and satellite test verification phases of front-end space applications, efforts are currently being made to prepare for the scientific application system test of the manned spaceflight laboratory.
