You can watch the concert on your mobile phone after scanning this ticket
Beijing time, October 16, according to foreign media reports, our smartphones and tablets are increasingly connecting the real world with the virtual network world. For example, QR codes are becoming more and more common in advertising, marketing, and retail. Just click the smartphone camera to scan the QR code, and you can connect to the QR code-printed product or promotion-related network information, transactions, or services.
Germany-based Printechnologics is the winner of this year's "Wall Street Journal" Science and Technology Innovation Award. It invented Touchcode technology to make the connection between the real world and the virtual world easier.
Touchcode technology can enable publishing companies, consumer product companies, and even promoters and others to add invisible codes to printed products, which can be identified by any device with a touch screen. These invisible codes can be connected to videos, games, prescriptions, or just other online functions. For example, a concert ticket printed with the invisible code of Touchcode can be connected to the singing video clip of the participating artist.
Faster and safer
Compared with QR codes, this technology has several advantages, mainly because it is simpler. Users simply place the printed matter within the screen of a tablet or smartphone, and the invisible code can immediately connect to online content. In other words, there is no need to click the camera to take a photo of the QR code.
William Webb, chief technology officer of British startup Neul and one of the judges of the "Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award", said: "This is indeed very novel and simpler than using cameras."
Compared with QR codes, Touchcode has another advantage, which is more secure. QR codes in black and white mode can be copied simply by photocopying, which is a problem faced by payment-related QR codes. Touchcode is an invisible code, so there is no such problem.
In addition, the QR code is directly connected to the website after scanning, which provides an opportunity for users to install malware on their mobile devices. For example, a QR code that looks like a discount coupon for a well-known brand can pose a security threat to the user. Touchcode can prevent similar attacks because all the content it connects to users is located on Printechnologics' servers, so users will not be misled to other websites.
In addition, Touchcode is cheaper than RFID technology, which is often used for the same purpose as QR codes. Saechcha Voigt, founder and CEO of Printechnologics, said: "We are positioning ourselves between expensive RFID chips and QR codes."
Start authorization
Printechnologics, which specializes in printed circuits, has developed an early technology that requires special identification equipment. In order to develop Touchcode, the company devised a method to print codes using a material that can only be recognized by a multi-touch screen, which is the same principle as a human finger operating this screen.
Printechnologics developed this technology last year and has now begun to provide licensing. Recently, the German media company Axel Springer AG added a Touchcode card to the Icon magazine, which was released with the publisher ’s Sunday edition of Le Monde. This card allows users to download the latest iPad version of "Icon" magazine for free.
Darlene JS Solomon, chief technology officer of Agilent Technologies and one of the judges of the "Wall Street Journal Technology Innovation Award", said that although it is unclear how convenient companies use Touchcode technology in printed materials, "we I think this can indeed promote progress.
