According to news from Shanghai, China, Bayer MaterialScience will showcase its innovations in the polyurethane market in China at the Asia PU Exhibition and the 7th China International Polyurethane Expo to be held in Shanghai from September 3rd to 5th.
BaySystems® is a unified brand of Bayer MaterialScience's global polyurethane systems business. The exhibition will highlight its innovative applications and customized solutions in many industries such as automotive, electrical appliances, construction, furniture, sports and leisure.
The RIM (aliphatic injection molding reaction) technology is a major highlight of the show. It is cost-effective and is an alternative to existing polyurethane spray skin technology and in-mold paint RIM technology. Especially in the automotive industry has great potential for application, can be used for dashboard, armrests, center consoles, door trims and other decorative interior parts of vehicle interiors.
With the growing emphasis on energy efficiency worldwide, various types of Bayer MaterialScience exhibits will showcase the company's outstanding solutions to today's environmental challenges.
Another highlight of the show is a refrigerator, which uses a new type of polyurethane rigid foam as its thermal insulation system. Compared to traditional polyurethane thermal insulation foam systems, this thermal insulation system uses twice as many renewable raw materials. The insulation material of the refrigerator is Baytherms® polyurethane rigid foam, which achieves a high level of energy consumption. In addition, the processing and final properties of the new foam system equals or even exceeds the rigid foams currently used in the market for this purpose. This innovation not only means lower energy consumption, but also reflects the importance attached to the sustainable development of climate protection.
In addition, Bayer MaterialScience's 350,000-ton MDI plant is scheduled to be put into operation at Bayer Shanghai's integrated base in the second half of this year. The plant will become the world's largest MDI single-row facility to date. The commissioning of the new device will further consolidate Bayer MaterialScience's leading position in the supply of polyurethane raw materials in the fast-growing Chinese market. MDI is a major component of polyurethane rigid foam and is used extensively in insulation systems for buildings, refrigeration equipment, and pipelines.
The innovative gas phase phosgene process for the production of toluene diisocyanate (TDI) is an important contribution to the energy efficiency of Bayer MaterialScience and the Bayer Climate Protection Program. TDI is a raw material for polyurethane soft foam that can be used for upholstered furniture, mattresses and car seats. This process will be used for the first time in an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons of TDI world-class production facilities. The device is currently being carried out in an orderly manner at Bayer Shanghai Integrated Base (BISS) and is scheduled to be put into production in 2010. Compared with traditional processes, this process requires 80% less solvent and 60% less energy. With this process, annual emissions of 300,000-ton production facilities can be reduced by about 60,000 tons, contributing to climate protection.
In addition, the system network factory that broke ground in Guangzhou earlier this year expanded the network of BaySystemss® in the southern China market. At the same time, the continuous development of Bayer Polymers R&D Center will further highlight Bayer MaterialScience's leading position.
